Cow kidnapped by hoons

Early morning Margaret River coffee drinkers who headed down to the White Elephant for their regular latte were no doubt giggling when they were greeted by a cow grazing on the pontoon in the bay at Gnarabup!  Believe it or not, overnight, some plonkers managed to steal the cow from its home at Margaret’s Beach Resort, carry it down to the boat ramp and float it out to the Rotary pontoon for a memorable and moo’ving Margaret River overnight getaway.

Scene two, enter Margaret River Rotarians who coincidently arrived at the boat ramp this morning to retrieve the pontoon for winter, only to be greeted by a cow and a seriously banged up Range Rover precariously half hanging off the boat ramp, covered in seaweed, with 4 flat tyres and an empty packet of No-Dose.  Mmmm, very bright hoons these ones!

The unknown hoons sheepishly arrived mid morning to attempt to retrieve their trashed car in front of packed White Elephant audience.  How humiliating!   Not so cool now, hey?

The question remains on everyone’s lips:   Were the same tossers responsible for kidnapping the cow and gazumpted by a wave on the boat ramp for their troubles, or are the kidnappers still at large?  Or is is simply, skulduggery at it’s best?

The cow (one of 86 artistic bovines grazing around the Margaret River region as part of the international art event Cow Parade) was returned to its rightful owners.  The Rotary pontoon has been taken away for another year and after watching the recovery mission we enjoyed a sensational breakfast at the White Elephant Beach Cafe

Sydney design gurus dig iconic Margaret River beach house

Posted in 1 on April 7, 2010 by ronroozen

Sydney design gurus, Habitusonline, check out The Roozen Residence in Margaret River and here’s what they had to say :

“Western Australia’s Margaret River region is home to some of the best surfing, wine tasting and chocolate hotspots in Australia. For local surfer and artist Ron Roozen, a house that took in the expansive views of Australia’s western coastline provided the best opportunity to appreciate the lushness of the area.

With a triangular floorplan, the Dale Jones-Evans-designed house takes in 180-degree views of the Indian Ocean. Located in Prevelly on Western Australia’s South West coast, the living, dining and kitchen areas all face towards the ocean, observing breathtaking sunrises and romantic sunsets. While small viewing windows throughout the shorter sides of the house offer glimpses of the dense foliage and expansive views of the ocean beyond. With three large decks, there are also plenty of opportunities to entertain and enjoy the local produce. The interior colours are earthy with granite bench tops and stainless steel splashbacks in the kitchen juxtaposed with dark timbers and leathers.

For that extra level of comfort, a masseuse, pantry service, a chef and wine touring can be organised for your stay.

Whether it’s the feel of sand between your toes or the taste of a fine glass of red, the Roozen Residence offers a place to relax and unwind. “

Biggest critics give the tick of approval to Margaret River’s Cow Parade!

Posted in 1 on March 17, 2010 by ronroozen

Some of the CowParade’s biggest critics have given Ron Roozen’s installation, “Free as a Cow”, a moo’ving thumbs up!

Rob Broadfield’s highly anticipated ‘Inside Cover’ has acknowledged “Perhaps we’ve been wrong about this controversial art show all along!”.  I wonder who ‘we’ are?

I wonder if Saracen’s,  Luke Saraceni and his neighbours, Peter and Di Laurance (who approved of the ‘tongue in cheek’ proposal of the installation which acknowledges the ‘free as a bird’ sculpture at their Laurance Winery) are as moo’ved by Mr Broadfield’s chapter?

The way I see it is, it’s ALL GOOD!  The AMRTA’s CowParade is getting everyone talking about the Margaret River

On a serious note, head on down and do the CowParade trail around Margaret River, check out Laurance’s, sneek across the road to Saracen’s and of course, check out the moo’st talked about installation ”Free as a cow” in Cowaramup’s Pioneer Park.

If it moo’ves you, SMS the word ‘cow’ followed by its number, ie Cow25, to 0412 055 255 – the Margaret River tourist bureau are giving away a free nights accommodation for your troubles.  Check out the poll on the AMRTA website for more information.

Free as a Cow, Margaret River CowParade

After 3 months of work, Ron’s installation for the Margaret River CowParade public art event was now complete.

The piece was named “Free as a Cow”, a tongue in cheek acknowledgement of a local icon “Free as a Bird”, the contraversial sculpture at Laurance Winery.

“Free as a Cow” was finally erected in Pioneer Park, Cowaramup!  Perfect, seeing Cowaramup is the heart of Margaret River region’s dairy farms and the cow ended up 20 foot in the air for the rest of the herd to look up to (If you’ve ever read Jonathon Livingstone Seagull you’ll see the connection!).

CowParade exhibition runs from March to end of May.  Mention this blog when you book your accommodation at Ron’s Margaret River beach house and we’ll give you a 10% discount on your accommodation.
